Purpose:
The Principal is responsible for leading the development of business requirements, technical solutions and alternatives that meet the needs of our clients. The role encompasses client relations, supply chain consulting services, program management, and supports the pursuit of new business opportunities. The Principal will help to articulate the value Tompkins Solutions brings to an opportunity and will present relevant and compelling project information to current and potential clients.
Organizational Relationships:
The Principal will work closely with the Executive Sales leadership team to target and close new business. The Principal reports to the Vice President of Supply Chain Solutions and will have resource responsibilities for several Project Managers. In addition to their direct resource responsibilities, The Principal will also have indirect leadership and supervisory responsibility for other key project team members.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead and direct multiple projects running concurrently
- Serve as a point of contact with clients as part of the leadership team
- Provide continuity from the initial client contact/sales effort through close cooperation and collaboration with the client and internal team members
- Effectively communicate our methodology and delivery approach to their clients
- Coordinate and lead all business disciplines (supply chain consulting services, engineering, procurement, finance, legal, etc.) to execute deliverables that meet client expectations
- Ensure adherence to master plans and schedules, developing solutions, and preparing project deliverables that can be completed on time and within budget
- Review project design requirements and deliverables suggesting alternatives and changes that improve the overall design and deliverable
- Assist with the preparation and review of project proposals and estimates
- Provide regular project updates to the leadership team
- Conduct internal kickoff and briefing meetings between project team members
- Provide leadership, coaching, mentorship, and development to project managers and other project team members
- Complete performance and progress reviews for project managers
- Ensure project managers provide evaluations for the project team according to schedule
- Conduct weekly project status reviews with project managers and project teams
- Lead and participate in all QA reviews
- Manage all discussions with clients regarding scope interpretation, client support, and/or change orders
- Complete the Project Development Opportunities Form and coordinate the execution of the plan
- Proactively communicate project status and follow-on opportunities to Account Manager
- Maintain project budget status reports & provide updates to Account Managers
- Ensure project managers complete all end-of-project close-out requirements
- Build client relationships to enable and develop follow-on sales opportunities
- Develop and facilitate organizational and professional development activities
- Other duties, as needed
Qualifications:
- 4-year degree in engineering, business, or related field (BS, BSIE, BET, BA)
- 7+ years of supply chain consulting, program or project management related experience in management consulting (or 7 years of internal experience in a consulting capacity)
- The ability to understand and interpret ambiguous business issues and to creatively translate and develop them into logical and structured material handling solutions and/or network designs
- A track record of strong leadership, solutions design, client management, project management, strategic thinking, problem solving, and influencing skills
- The ability to present ideas in a clear and concise manner
- Proven success working in a fast-paced high growth team based environment
- The ability to adapt communication and leadership styles to the audience
- The ability to manage multiple clients & priorities and to meet tight deadlines
- Flexibility and the ability to travel as needed
- Typically, 40%-60% travel is required
